Webometrics Global Web Rankings for Universities July 2026

Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences ranked 821st out of more than 32,000 universities worldwide in the July 2026 Webometrics rankings, placing 160th among Asian institutions and second among the country's medical universities.

The university also placed third nationally among all universities, medical and non-medical alike, according to results released this month by Webometrics, an independent research initiative that ranks institutions twice a year, in January and July.

Webometrics evaluates universities based on four criteria: research and scholarly impact, academic openness and visibility, digital engagement, and performance across teaching, research, and public service. The organization says it operates as a non-commercial effort to promote transparency and open access in higher education.

Dr. Mortazavi, the university's Vice-Chancellor of international affairs, credited the ranking to faculty research output and cross-departmental collaboration, despite what he described as ongoing wartime conditions and limitations.

"This reflects the continuity of our scientific and research output, and the cooperation across university units to improve our visibility and global academic presence," Dr. Mortazavi said.

He thanked faculty, researchers, administrators, staff, and students for their contributions and said he expects the university to improve its standing in future rankings through continued collaboration and strategic planning.
